Junior Tennis Tournaments & Social Sessions Dates
Hi Juniors
I wanted to introduce myself and to let you know of a few things that are happening for the juniors over the coming months.
I took over as Junior Chair when Mags stepped down at the beginning of May. I live Westcott and have been playing tennis at the club for about a year now, I have two kids aged 6 and 9 both at the beginning of their tennis journey. I am really looking forward to being involved in junior tennis at the club and excited to add to an already great junior programme. Over the past month I have been speaking to people about what their kids have enjoyed and would like to see more of, the two main themes have been more tournaments and more opportunity for the kids to play together……so……..
We wanted to let you know of a couple of tournaments happening over the next few months.
Wimbledon themed tournament will take place on 23rd July at 12.30pm
This will be a tournament for the U8’s, U9’s and U10’s
A great start to the summer holidays and keeping the Wimbledon buzz alive with party food, strawberries and pimms (for the adults)
US Open themed tournament will take place on Sunday 10th September at 12.30pm
This will be a tournament for the U12’s, U14’s and U18’s
American themed with BBQ
£5 per entry – more details to follow
We also wanted to let you know about some social tennis sessions for juniors that will be running on a Sunday from September to encourage younger members to play more tennis, make friends and have some fun. These will work in a similar way to the adult social sessions that already run on a Wednesday and Saturday and we hope will be a good opportunity for juniors of a similar level to practice together and play some friendly matches. Please book onto these via the website so we have an idea of numbers and can help match you with people of a similar level. Please note these will not be coach led sessions but there will be an adult present to organise and get you playing as many people as possible in the time.
U10’s Sunday 10th September and Sunday 1st October 12.30pm – 3.30pm
U14’s Sunday 17th September and Sunday 8th October 12.30pm - 3.30pm
U18’s Sunday 24th September and Sunday 15th October 12.30pm - 3.30pm
We will send out more details of all these events nearer the time
As Brian mentioned in his previous email the LTA’s Surrey League is a great way to start playing in more matches against other clubs. Its really easy to register your children with an LTA number then they can start playing in a team. The matches start from September and there are only a handful of matches to play each season so it’s a great way to get playing some more competitive tennis against new people and representing the club. If you need any help with this or any further information or think your child would be interested in playing in league matches then please contact me or one of the coaches who can help you. Registering with the LTA also has a number of benefits including entry into Wimbledon ticket ballot and discounts off clothing and footwear.
