Brian's Tennis Newsletter - 6th June

Hi Everyone
It's been a while since last newsletter... French Open fever.. Sabalenka into final & French girl Boisson trying to overcome number 2 seed Gauff to reach the final. Think Gauff will have a bit too much for her.
Surrey's Hannah Klugman is also into the junior semis!
Queens starts next week... LTA also commit to equal prize money to women at Queen's by 2029.
Wimbledon fever starting to build!
Dorking Club Tournament
Adult Matches going on all over the place.... Events starting to get to quarters and semi final stages. We will try and get info out when semi finals of main events are happening if you want to come and support.
Check out draws and result at:

Players don't forget to send in your results to dorkingclubtournament@gmail.com as soon as matches finish. Just to remind players that we still don't have clairvoyant skills to enter results and it always helps next opponent to know who they are playing, so before you plaster your victory pics all over social media, quick email to Brian on the above address
Many thanks to all those that remember this format
Players please don't forget if you have lost there may be a consolation/plate event you go into.... Never ending chances for glory!
Good Luck To All Our Players....
Club News
Big welcome to our new members... Lots going on at the club and a great time to start... Great atmosphere in the evenings and weekends with players enjoying an after match drink al fresco.. Feel free to get in touch to ask anything about the club.
Etiquette around the club... We know the rules... Enjoy your tennis in a sporting spirit... We understand the ups and downs of winning and losing points, but remember there maybe other players, especially juniors close by.
Keep the courts tidy... Balls in the recycling if you don't want to keep.. Cans & lids in the bins. Always cracks me up when there is a tennis ball can lid lying on top of the bin.
Club sessions... Always popular.. Wednesday evenings from 630pm and Saturday afternoons from 2pm. Remember the coaches are there to help & organise... We don't need any sous coaches! There is a reason why we are there... To create a welcoming, friendly, fun environment for you to play with different players. It's a great social tennis occasion to embrace every player you play with.
Remember Tennis Finals Day for Adult & Juniors is Saturday 28th June with matches starting in the morning onwards. It's always a great event.
Remember the AGM this Wednesday evening.
Don't forget to cancel your courts if you cannot play... Especially at peak times...
Coaching Tip of the Week - A few tips for playing on clay
- Play with more height and spin - This keeps your opponent behind the baseline and stops them coming into the net.
- Power and pace are important in tennis, but moving your opponent around is equally effective. Look for the angles and pushing your opponent wider to create the down the line winner.
- Look to target your opponents backhand... Generally weaker, so getting that ball a bit higher will create more chances to attack.
- Look at ghosting into the net after a higher loopy shot with your opponent further back, but make sure you play it well otherwise a risky move. There is an element of surprise for your opponent.
Have a great week and don't forget to say hello to the coaches and ask for any tips that might help you WIN!
